Trainees from SIEGENIA campaigning for people in need once again

With more than 160 presents sold and proceeds of around 1,300 euros, including almost 200 euros due to voluntary donations from our staff: the SIEGENIA trainees are delighted with the funds raised from this year's Christmas sale. The support of regional charities has a long tradition with our trainees. As in previous years, they carried out a large sales campaign at the beginning of 2019 with great motivation and commitment, in which presents received in the pre-Christmas period could be acquired at fair prices. The readiness of company owner Wieland Frank to actively participate in this project is as traditional as the commitment of the trainees. He made up the proceeds to 2,500 euros.

Two cheques of 1,250 euros each

This year the company management chose from the suggestions of the staff two Siegerland charity organisations, whose work was to be supported by these contributions: the "Zeitpaten" (time mentors) Project of the District Association of the Siegerland Women's Aid and the "kinderinsel" (children's island) of the DRK-Kinderklinik (Paediatric Clinic) in Siegen. Each one received a cheque of 1,250 euros from the trainees of the SIEGENIA GROUP.

In the scope of the "Zeitpaten" Project, male and female volunteers regularly give their time to children of another family to help them with their homework, play, tell stories or to go on excursions. The experience of the approx. 80 Siegerland families, who have already participated in this project, has shown that it not only relieves the burden on parents, but it also promotes the self confidence of the children and supports them in the development of their personal strengths. The time mentors themselves also find their involvement enriching.

The "kinderinsel" of the Siegen Pediatric Clinic, an intensive care station with a living-room atmosphere, treats children and young people on long-term ventilation from all over Germany. The objective is to support and encourage the young patients to the best of one's ability and to create an environment that enables independence and normality within the scope of their capabilities. Due to the connection to the DRK-Kinderklinik and consequently to the home pediatric nursing, this includes, if desired, support along the path back into the family.
