SIEGENIA: controlling ventilation units with KNX
New room comfort benefits for building automation
SIEGENIA is expanding the range of applications for its KNX-compatible solutions: in addition to the company's window and door drives, the AEROMAT VT facade ventilator and the AEROPLUS WRG wall-mounted ventilator can now be integrated into the KNX building automation. Whilst the AEROMAT VT facade ventilation system can also be integrated with great flexibility into sophisticated ventilation concepts thanks to the freedom to combine a variety of different device types, the compact design of the AEROPLUS WRG wall-mounted ventilator makes it possible to provide ventilation with heat recovery, even in renovation projects. This makes SIEGENIA one of the few providers to offer a high-performance solution for automated ventilation using KNX.
One of the particular advantages of SIEGENIA solutions is the ability to connect window ventilation and decentralised ventilation units via the building automation system, creating a hybrid solution. This is what sets this solution apart from most of the alternatives currently available. By expanding its portfolio of KNX-enabled solutions for facades, SIEGENIA is providing architects, planners and fabricators with the ability to enhance their processing of orders for high-end residential and commercial buildings which require solutions to be integrated into the building management system. From simple, intuitive operation and a healthy indoor environment to energy efficiency, burglar resistance and accessibility, residential and commercial buildings can be fully automated and tailored to individual requirements. SIEGENIA's compact, certified KNX gateway – which also supports encrypted communication via KNX secure – provides the technical basis for integrating SI-BUS-capable solutions into the building automation system. The gateway can be installed either in-wall or using top-hat rail mounting.
Attractive application scenarios
This enables users to set up a variety of intelligent scenarios for enhanced room comfort and healthy living. In office buildings, for example, the AEROMAT VT allows passive ventilation cooling to be combined strategically with heating and blinds in order to achieve energy-efficient thermal comfort in meeting rooms: if the ventilator's sensor registers that the indoor air temperature is too high due to solar radiation, the heating output is reduced and the blinds are lowered. At the same time, the ventilation units switch to cross-ventilation mode for passive cooling. Scenarios can also be set up for energy-efficient building use after working hours. These scenarios can include reducing the air exchange rate, lowering the temperature in the room and closing the windows, for example.
Integrating ventilation units into KNX building automation also provides enhanced room comfort in private residential properties. In summer, for example, the AEROPLUS WRG can be incorporated into intelligent scenarios to provide night cooling. Windows open to the tilt position at a specified time. The AEROPLUS WRG switches to supply-air-only mode to draw the cool outside air into the building.
