From locksmith to international company

KFV has been writing success stories for well over one hundred years now with its innovative door locking technology. The subsidiary company of the SIEGENIA GROUP has now celebrated a memorable anniversary: On 28th August, KFV turned 150 years old. Wieland Frank, executive partner of SIEGENIA, explained: "KFV owes its remarkable growth to pioneering solutions in the field of electromechanical locking and unlocking systems. Customers especially appreciate the individual product range, which reacts to their needs time and again."

Success through business acumen and inventiveness

An integral part of the SIEGENIA GROUP today, it started on 28th August 1868: At the age of 16, the company founder, Karl Fliether opened a locksmith's forge in the east of Velbert. As early as 1897, by commissioning a steam engine, he started the decisive step from being a craft company to an industrial enterprise and was increasingly concentrating on the production of door locks by 1900. The first patents soon followed. By 1906, he had set up a new super-modern production facility.

KFV established a good reputation as a family company throughout four generations. The change in the top management in 1959, when Karl Joachim Fliether took over the management of KFV, proved to be particularly significant. He was instrumental in the breakthrough of the company, as he soon heralded a rapid development with diverse innovations.

Breakthrough in the seventies

KFV made history with a pioneering innovation in the seventies, which quickly made the company the market leader for multi-point locks. At this time, the industry was working intensively on the development of new solutions for improved burglar resistance. The KFV designers developed an innovative connecting gear as well as a precisely dimensioned control curve through which the KFV multi-point locks became the most reliable security solution by far.

During the following decades KFV expanded its strong position with further innovations. With the launch of the Fliethomatic locking system in 1999, the company started producing mechatronic systems. A further milestone was reached in 2002 with the launch of the GENIUS mechatronic locking and unlocking system that even complies with current room comfort requirements due to the consistent further development of its comfort and security features. The successful development was also evident in the number of employees: KFV already had several hundred employees in 2002 and had therefore practically increased its staff six-fold within a few decades.

A strong partner for the SIEGENIA GROUP

KFV has been part of the SIEGENIA GROUP since 2006. "Our window, door and comfort systems rely on the sensible networking of powerful individual solutions for enhanced room comfort, offering added value to fabricators and end users. The KFV door locking systems are an important addition to this portfolio", emphasised Wieland Frank. The strategic merger also means a renewed strengthening of the competitive position for the German market leader for multi-point locks. With diverse innovations such as the A-opener or KFVkeyless, the company has made its presence known in the following years,  and today KFV is counted among the leading lock manufacturers in Europe. To coincide with its 150th anniversary, the company launched its innovative modular system, KFV ONE. This innovation not only makes door fabrication and assembly considerably more efficient than ever, but thanks to the new generation of multi-point locks, it also permits fabricators to convince in sales pitches thanks to the consistent consideration of room comfort.
